Sometimes, it is so important to hear words, not to read... It is even strange how deeply the voice, intonation change the meaning of words, their imagery. Though, not that strange, however, – isn’t it why we love the theater? – but rather pleasant to notice it here. Here, where there is no external image – consequently, the reader’s voice is the only instrument of the artist. However, the only one – does not mean limited. I, for example, was not a great fan of "The Turbiny’s Days" in their printed form – but today... I laughed aloud, and got petrified, and caught every next word – I again lived through not just the play, but also everything that I know about those times. Moreover, new shades have appeared in perception of Kyiv. At least, a lot of things have come back to life, acquired visible outlines – have been filled in. And filled me. It also refers to Bulgakov. I have read about him, and watched films about him – but now, in these sound plays, he comes back to life in a special, quite different way. Not a writer, not a dramatist appears here, but very brightly – a man. To my mind, there is also a great merit of the reader, Mykola Rushkovsky, in it. I won’t describe how he reads – I will only say that everything sounds organic. I think, it is the main thing – especially, because of that very different, varied plays have been collected here. The thing that unites them is the depth of human characters. It is not everything by Bulgakov that is worth reading, but it is worth that.
