Oj ljesom-ljesom. Traditional Music of Rivne Polissja. (Oj, through the Forest)

As known, in the territory of Polissja it is possible to hear songs, to see remnants of rites that are already more than a thousand years old even in our time. Though, there remain fewer and fewer living bearers of this culture – but we have records. In this case – records of 1998 made with domestic sound-recording equipment, in the field. Consequently, on the one hand, the quality of the recording is not super high. And on the other – all that is live, ingenuous, pure, frank. Clearly, the most interesting records of the highest quality appear on the disc. As a result – it includes groups of calendar ceremonial and domestic ceremonial pieces, they make up the basis of the disc. They are complemented with non-calendar pieces, shooters' songs, charms, instrumental tunes. On the whole, the album, I think, can create quite an integral feeling about the culture of Polischuks – the more so that here, in addition to ceremonial and domestic songs, quite a bit of humorous refrains can be found. And it means that the impression will not be one-sided.
