Kyiv Chamber Choir. Artemiy Vedel. Vol.2. Spiritual concertos 8-12.
"The second half of the 18th century became the "golden era" in the history and art of Ukrainian choral music. The creations and works of such well known masters, as Berezovsky, Bortniansky, Vedel elevated Ukrainian music to its highest spiritual orbits, which still to today is perceived as an assured aesthetical ideal. And all this came about at the time when Ukraine lived under the brutal, ferocious and cruel national oppression of Russian Imperialism. A large number and stream of Ukrainian youth, namely musicians, relocated to Russia, primarily to fill monastic choirs, court choirs, private capellas, and theatres... And yet they returned to Ukraine, even individually. Amongst them was Artemiy Vedel, to whom fate bequeathed the title of the most magically fascinating, and yet  simultaneously, the most tragic star of Ukraine. For in the 18th century, there was no better composer, nor better singer, and no better conductor-kapellmeister. No better enigmatic figure also...

On this CD the Chamber Choir "Kyiv" presents the spiritual concertos from the Vedel's unique autobiographical works (¹'s 8-12).

Concerto ¹'s 8-10 were scored in Kharkiv. In ¹8 we see a model of Vedel's later concertos... Scaled, full of contrasting satisfactions and complex to perform, Concerto ¹8 in style demonstrates the most classical nature of all previous concerts. New grains of Vedel's creativity are opened in the two-choir Concertos ¹'s 9-10. Here the composer demonstrates his brilliant possession of expression and opportunities of antiphonal sound. The most scaled and complex in its internal organisation is Concerto ¹11 and Concerto ¹12 – which were created not too long before Vedel's entry as a servant-novice in the Kyiv-Pecherska Monastery, and his arrest six months later. Man's struggle with the forces of evil become foremost themes in these creations, and take upon themselves, a sign of external conflict..." Tetiana Husarchuk, Artistic Studies Candidate

Kyiv Chamber Choir. Masterpieces of the Ukrainian Choral Baroque.

This CD represents 11 choral works which undoubtedly could be called the masterpieces of the Ukrainian choral baroque. The sacred music of so-called baroque-period is the highest achievement of Ukrainian musical heritage which reflects revival of creative forces of the Ukrainian people at the latter half of the 17th century and the early 18th century.

Kyiv Chamber Choir, Ukrainian Music Choir "Vidrodgennia". Maxym Berezovsky, Artem Vedel'. Sacred Works (with concert texts and a comment). (2CD).

Berezovsky and Vedel. Two identically unattainable high peaks. One of the most prominent composers of the 18th century, whose name is written in golden letters in the history of music, and the ascetic singer of prayers, whose name warms with its golden radiance orthodox cathedrals all over the earth...

Men's Choir "Nadija Tserkvy". Liturhichnyy rik. (Liturgy Year)

It seems to me that these voices are quite able to fill music they perform with spirituality regardless of what style it belongs to – at least, if only they preserve the manner characteristic of the choir. Because, in the end, behind the great beauty there stands no less great internal force, which it is easy to feel.

Anthology of Sacred Music. (mp3).

For all those who have no need for audio discs but do have the need for sacred music that sounds at home, not in a church – this disc will become just a wonderful acquisition. First, these are, as you can see, five albums on one disc. But number not always can say anything about quality, of course. Thus, secondly – have a look at the performers whose albums have been included here.

Canticles of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. (mp3).

Singing of Lavra monks attracts even people far from orthodoxy – they come to listen to it because real beauty never tolerates limitations. The four albums represented on this disc (the fifth one is rather a collection, though not less beautiful) – are only a small part, certainly. Nevertheless, they are, probably, among the best ones – however, make sure yourself.

The Dmytro Bortnianskyi Ñhamber Ñhoir. The Choral Frescoes Of Sivershchyna.

Within almost ten years of its existence, the repertoire of this choir has become so big and diverse, that, as connoisseurs claim, it is difficult to restrict it with certain frames. Not only academic, but also modern performance turned out to be easy for them.
