Till recently, there was the situation when Lemky within the Ukrainian nation were like partisans. Somebody heard something about them, but practically nobody saw them. Though they themselves did not even suspect that, lived their usual life and that’s all. And they live like that now. And they live well, and they keep their traditions, songs and the language which differs so much from Ukrainian language. Personally I heard about them for the first time from Taras Chubai who, by the way, was very much surprised when he came across such cultural stratum as Lemky folklore. By now a lot of musical material on this topic, collected during ethnographical expiditions, has been published. This disk is the next step. That is, Lemky songs are performed in modern interpretation. It gives them some new colours but in this case does not hide their originality. Moreover, Anna Cheberenchyk has a deep strong voice. It is not polished, but may be there is some zest in it. At any rate, it is pleasant to listen to these songs performed by her. You even want to hear more of them.
