The Ukrainian shooters were legionaries (volunteers), that is why among them mostly the Ukrainians not subject to mobilization fought - those aged under 18 and older than 50 - were found. According to the German commandment, usususys were the "best detachment in the whole Austrian Hungarian army". Apart from battle art, the shooters left behind them an enormous layer of cultural legacy - music, artistic and literary. Being outside of Galychyna, they created theaters, "Prosvita" centers, founded schools.
In their symbolism, the shooters often used the image of Archangel Michael and the shield with the Galychyna lion. With the faith that their task was "the free the Ukrainian brothers from hostile chains", they sacrificed their life and obtained military valor, which even centuries after left a bright track in the history of the Ukrainian liberation struggle."
