Dosch. Hra svitla. (Play of Light)

Zaporizhia continues to surprise us with young, fresh music. However, one can hardly call the group "Dosch" a novice, really, – it exists for almost 10 years now, and during the latter five ones it has successfully taken part in a few notable festivals, and won in "Pearls of the Season". But it performs music that is young and fresh – actually, the debut album "Play of Light" illustrates this brightly. At that, the formal signs would seem to be ordinary – the music consists of the vocal, keys, guitar, drums and bass. But – this music has its own face, and it, which is good, can hardly be characterized with just one term. Yes, the sounding is characterized by soft lyricism – this could be usual pop-rock unless sometimes it did not swing, say, to the jazz palette. Actually, exactly such transparent sprinklings of light jazz and funk – evidently, the keys and the rhythm section deserve separate gratitude here for the former, the guitar for the latter – make up a half of sparkles of "Dosch"'s music. But there is also the vocal – it is here also not as a syrup on ice-cream. Sometimes light, muffled, so close – it may in a second, as if following fresh wind, turn into quite a different direction. Olena Chepiga successfully balances between soft, warm tenderness – and abrupt, tense, tearing energy of a real rock-diva. She sings emotionally – but the emotions do not grow stronger than feelings, and it seems to me that it is good. In the end, emotions are children of an uneasy mind, they live and die outside. Feelings live deeper – in one's heart. And the prism mentioned in the album polygraph also lives exactly there – at least, so it seems to me...
