Borys Lyatoshynsky. Slov’jans‘ka uvertjura. (Slavonic Overture)
The name of Borys Lyatoshynsky causes associations not only with the enormous and maybe the most glorious period of Ukrainian Soviet music development, but also with memory about the great talent, courage and honesty. In the most difficult times for his country, at the bitterest minutes of his own life, he remained a sincere, brave artist. Lyatoshynsky is foremost a symphonies composer. For him, sympyonism is a way of life in music, the principle of thinking in all pieces without exception, from the widest canvas to a choral miniature or an arrangement of a folk song. In the First Symphony (1918), the polyphonic gift of the composer, his brilliant mastering of orchestral timbres, extensive scale of intensions were brightly revealed. In 1926, the Overture based on four Ukrainian themes appears signifying the beginning of a new period, for which intent attention to Ukrainian folklore was characteristic of. And the 1950-60s are noted for the composer's intense interest in Slavonic culture. In search for common roots, unity of Slavs, he intently studied Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Bulgarian folklore. As a result – there appear the "Slavonic Concert" for fortepiano with orchestra, 2 mazurkas based on Polish themes for violoncello and fortepiano, romances for poems by A. Mickiewicz, symphonic poems, "Slavonic Overture", the Fifth (Slavonic) Symphony "Slavonic Suite" for the symphonic orchestra. Lyatoshynsky interprets pan-Slavism grounding on high humanist positions, as a unity of feelings and understanding of the world.

Kyiv Chamber Choir, Valentyn Sylvestrov. Sacred Works. Volume Two.

Just incredible music – simple and wonderful at the same time.. And simple not because it does not contain delicate nuances, but because it succeeds, having rounded all sophistications of intellectual perception, to slightly open the door – right into the heart.. The multidimensional character of real Names – this is what you remember when listening to this disc.

Ivan Karabits. Symphonic and chamber compositions.

Valentyn Sylvestrov, Valeriy Matiukhin, Bohdana Pivnenko. Fleeting Melodies. (premium release). /digi-pack/

"...there is a certain analogy with Bach's cycle "The Art of the Fugue"; in Bach's work the didactic idea and its application are primary. I could have called this cycle "The Art of the Melody", but in this name the didactic idea is missing and only the "art" is represented; thus "fleeting melodies" – the expanse, in which melodies exist on the boundary between their appearance and disappearance..."

Myroslav Skoryk, Iryna Starodub, Bohdana Pivnenko. Violin – Piano Masterpieces.

...this disc even became the first (!) recording of sonatas by Myroslav Skoryk. Moreover: even the very music sheets of Sonata No.2 were not yet published at that moment. And Sonata No.1, by the way, is one of his diploma pieces in the domain of chamber music with which he in his time defended his degree after post-graduate studies in Moscow. Thus, this release can be justly referred to as really exclusive one..

Kyiv Chamber Choir. Romuald Twardowski. "Kyivska" Liturgy.

Romuald Twardowski composes in 2006 "Kyivska" Liturgy – and dedicates it exactly to the chamber choir "Kyiv". Such honor and attention could not remain without an answer – consequently, as it could be expected, the choir became the performer of the Liturgy... This is, sure, a good record – transparently soft and strong at the same time.

...In the end, gratitude – is virtually the best thing that real, inspired creativity is able to bring to life. And in this case – it does bring it, because lights of the artist and the performers have met in harmony...

Valentyn Sylvestrov, Kyiv Chamber Choir. Sacred Works. Volume One.

It seems to me that it is just impossible to pass by that rest, internal force and freedom that sound in his works. Confidently – but not boldly, nobly – but without boasting, posturing. Music by Sylvestrov practically always causes the feeling as though he stands in front of the face of eternity with his head uncovered but raised – and you, the listener, at these moments stand next to him...

Kyiv Chamber Choir, Yevhen Stankovych. Choral Creations. (2CD).

It is quite enough to just listen attentively to any pieces by Stankovych, from chamber to symphonic ones – and there are no longer any doubts: this man enriched not a nation – but humanity – with his creativity. The feeling is absolutely clear – the spaces that live in music by Stankovych breathe real grandeur.

Valentyn Sylvestrov, State chamber ensemble "Kyiv Soloists". Live in Kyiv. /digi-pack/

When the author perceives interpretation of his/her own works as an accomplished one – it does testify to something. And Valentyn Silvestrov referred to the interpretation by the ensemble "Kyiv Soloists" exactly in those terms. From now on, you also have the opportunity to listen to this concert, to hear, feel, perceive, penetrate into it...

Valentyn Sylvestrov, National Ensemble of Soloist "Kyiv Camerata". Meditation (symphony for violoncello and chamber orchestra).

His "Meditation" is a symphony for a violoncello and a chamber orchestra. Meditation in a general sense is a state, a process and quality at the same time. Since a symphony is called to reproduce and to recreate the first, the second and the third, it is hopeless to reproduce the content. This music...
