Three main categories of professional musicians are presented at this disc. Travelling singers – lyre players, and later – concertina players. Then shepherds – in old times they performed signal and magic music. And, at last, troyisti muzyky, who feel themselves well even in our time.

The thing is that as far as I have understood this is the only audio recording of the last lyre player from Ukrainian Polissya. The tradition disappeared with the death of Ivan Vlasyuk, whose performance is recorded here. So, this disc gives us the only chance to hear how it really used to be.

Pidlyashshya is a south-western region of Ukraine situated at the border, so naturally its culture is influenced by close neighbours – Belarus and Poland. In those parts along with usual songs you may also hear spiritual songs, Russian romances and songs, which once used to be Polish, but now have already become Ukrainian.
