Do you think that this is another disc with simple entertaining songs, which resembles other similar discs? You are quite right. So it is. But not completely. As there are not simply funny - or not so funny - Ukrainian songs recorded here. Here there are Lviv songs, or to be exact – batyarski songs. And Lviv batyary present by themselves completely different and very bright colouring, and having felt it once, a person cannot muddle it up with something else. And the point is not only in dialect. To it you should add both intonations and the manner of performance peculiar exactly to these songs. To it you should also add the things, from which these songs have grown – the attitude to life, to people, to urbanism and to events, which happen in a city. It is something special. Something, which differs very much from the portrait of, for example, Kyiv idler or Odesa bandit. In our time you can hardly find things like that either in Kyiv or in Lviv, but the songs have remained, bright and acute, with some kind of pepper. And it is good that we still can hear them.
