Revenko Band

The members of the Revenko Music (now - Revenko Band) quartet are neo-romantics or neo-classics. A combination of guitar, violin, cello and flute performed by this Kyiv quartet arouses in you a feeling of inexplicable nostalgia for something beautiful lost in the depths of subconsciousness. They have been well known to fans of instrumental music in Ukraine and beyond its borders since their first album Blazhenstvo was released in 2003. Despite that some media called the band "absolutely non-standard", the musician managed to win over the hearts of many fans and connoisseurs of music. Revenko Music is sometimes called "Ukrainian Apocalyptica", though it is unclear whether this is a good or a bad thing. "I constantly aim at creating something principally new by fusing different styles and types of music. For example, Blazhenstvo is a combination of a means of expressiveness of academic instruments and the notions of folk and rock music. The new album Apohei Dushi (Apogee of the Soul) is more diverse than the previous one," says the band's leader and composer Aleksey Revenko. In it you can hear new works performed by the quartet and solo guitar compositions by Aleksey himself. The author of the first Ukrainian rock opera Eneida, Kyiv's pianist Sergey Bedusenko, took part in recording of the album. In fact, the composition Apogee of the Soul is performed by him. Revenko said he wrote it when he was 11 and that it was his very first work. "It took me more than 15 years to understand that this composition is for the piano, not for guitar. When Bedusenko played it for me, the name came to my head naturally. We decided to also call the album by the same name," said Revenko. Many believe that the Revenko Music is sincere, light, and capable of healing people's souls. It does not destroy people's inner world. Instead, it creates conditions for the world to be kinder and multifarious. It does not match the canons of classics, jazz or rock. Still, it is hard to call it non-commercial, because the band gives concerts and their albums pull in impressive sales.
