Vasyl Stus

Vasyl Semenovych Stus (January 8, 1938 – September 4, 1985) was a Ukrainian poet and publicist, one of the most active members of Ukrainian dissident movement. For his political convictions, his works were banned by the Soviet regime and he spent 23 years (about a half of his life) in detention. On November 26, 2005 he was posthumously given the title Hero of Ukraine by order of the state.

The first volume of the "Collected Works" by Vasyl Stus includes "Early Poems" by the poet from the mid-1950s till early 1960s, the self-made collection "CASE No.13/BE 1339", which the poet did not submit to any publishing house, the partly reconstructed collection "Whirl" and poems written before the mid-1960s. Some poems are published for the first time.

Vasyl Stus. Collected Works. Third Volume: Creation Time / Dichtenszeit

The third volume of the "Collected Works" contains the collection of poems written during the first investigation, in 1972, in the pre-trial chamber of Kyiv Republican KGB office. In contrast to the first edition of the "Works" by Vasyl Stus, this one for the first time represents variants of translations from J.-W. Goethe, which did not appear in the previous edition because of the limited space.
