Komu Vnyz. Padaya vverh
If you know anything about Ukrainian rock, then it is practically impossible that you have never heard about "Komu Vnyz". However, it is most probable that you have never heard either this album or songs from it. There are two reasons for that – this album is the first one and it is recorded in Russian. And after they had taken the second place at the first "Chervona Ruta" contest in the genre of rock-music and had had a tour over Canada, Poland and at last over Ukraine, they started to sing in Ukrainian. Still the album fully deserves the respect of those who at least are interested in Ukrainian rock. Because this is exactly the rock-music in both main meanings – musical and ideological. I will clarify a bit: the album was first released in 1989, still in the times of the Soviet Union. And the texts of the songs in it perform the function of social protest exactly in that measure which could cause for "komuvnyztas" certain problems with "communists", that is with the authorities. You can read the texts of the songs in the booklet to this disc. As for music, it is not "sleek", either. Yes, of course, you may find the influence of "Led Zeppelin", "Queen" and somebody else. It is natural. But the main thing is that this music is hot. It is as tender for a listener as a rasp for a skin. And what did you expect it to be? This is rock.
