This recording based on reconsiderations of Rivne Polissya folklore – it is a really strange journey through abandoned places and forgotten memories, mystical and routine at the same time. Routine – because after 1986 Rivne Polissya has been steadily depleted, so it is really about desolated villages and feral lands. Mystical – because, on the one hand, it is the folklore of this region that has repeatedly struck us with the depth of its roots reaching much further than just the pre-Christian era. On the other – this locality, affected by the Chernobyl explosion, appears as a carrier of the post-nuclear culture grain genetically modified by external influences, where the prehistoric and contemporary may fuse, merge into a single spiral in order to move beyond the frame of historical thinking and structured culture. Anyway, this option is available – and the "Nord / Ouest" album can be regarded as one of ways of voicing it. No less witty than, say, "Contaminated Sounds" by Olexander Nesterov (actually, the first experiment of this kind in the Ukrainian music). Alla Zagaykevych is a master of the clear and vexatious expression that it is impossible to swallow without having used efforts to understand. This is a kind of a challenge, provocation for those who care. And, perhaps, of those who don't care nobody cares..
