The waltz was "born" 300 years ago on the border of three countries: Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. Initially, it was just a folk dance, later it penetrated into the aristocratic salon. Gradually, waltz music was no longer limited to dancing, people started listening to it with pleasure. Sure, during its long life, waltz changed its character, however, during the three centuries a lot of other dances appeared and disappeared – while it continued living... There is something in this dance so unusual that it enchants people of different epochs and nationalities, different ways of life and different age groups...
And now let us go back to Sibelius and his wonderful waltz. The phonogram with sounds of Nature for this piece is the most unusual one. The reason is not that it was revised more than 10 times but that it acquired its final form after an oriole, raven and redbreast appeared at our summer cottage in summer 2009 for the first time. I was so charmed by singing and beauty of these birds that once again revised the phonogram adding them there..." Stepan Nederitsa
