Sergiy Davydov. Ukrainian Jazz Round Dances.

When you listen to this disc for the first time – there appears the feeling of crystal transparency. And it, that feeling, does not disappear anywhere even after the tenth meeting. But each time it acquires other tints, nuances – because Sergiy Davydov together with his friends has created really live music, a motion picture. It changes together with you, parallel to you and in spite of you – because it breathes, never stops pulsating. Actually, it must be so (but it is not always so), when the issue is deep jazz, the more so – when the issue is original music, not arrangement of standards. Pleasant. It seems that Sergiy Davydov knows about classic music not less than about jazz – and, moreover, he is not afraid to allude to folklore motives. The correct combination of the three vectors forms a rich, high-quality palette – which, nevertheless, does not bore you too much with its dazzling. As in its basis – remember? – transparent, crystal air saturated with light... Sometimes this music seems fragile, tender, almost weightless – and the next instant such resiliency, flexibility sound in it that not a single storm will break. It either laughs or winks wilily – or sounds with such pensive tenderness, such forgiveness... There is the beauty of every minute, which does not depend on the past or the future, which is – just now, and for this reason – always. And everyone involved – Sergiy Davydov on the piano, Leonid Haysman on the bass guitar, Eugen Selezniov on drums, Olexander Rukomoynikov on the saxophone – everyone did their business well, with soul. This can be heard.
