Even though Marko Vovchok created works of very varied forms, the first recognition – and serious at once – came to her as to the master of short prose. Actually, it is this aspect of her creativity that is represented on this disc. The latter includes stories and short stories written in various periods of her life. For example, "Sister" and "Cossack Woman" are the works that became a part of the very first collection of Marko Vovchok’s stories, but it is they that first attracted attention of T.Shevchenko, I.Turgenev, M.Nekrasov. And "Schoolmiss", "Three Fates", "Pavlo Chornokryl" – this is already the period of the bloom of mastery, when the writer develops the genres of psychological story and short story. Approximately at the same time she writes the historical fairy-tale story "Karmelyuk" – it seems to me that this work stands somewhat separately from the others. At least because it is not quite a story – as to me, it is real poetry written in prose. However, the manner of M.Vovchok is in general characterized by deep poetry – internal one. As the skills to use a few words to express the great – and simple at the same time – beauty. Here we speak not so much about beauty of the landscape, how rather about beauty of the internal world of an ordinary person in his / her everyday life. Soft lyrics and delicate psychology – these are, presumably, the main features of these works. In the end, no wonder that Marko Vovchok influenced development of not only Ukrainian literature, but also development of national literatures of all Slavonic peoples in general. Women know how to bring beauty into our world – and she, no doubt, was one of such women.
