Zaporozhian Cossacks captivated by Turks dream to break free. Gossips about that reach the sultan. He disguises and penetrates unnoticed into the settlement of Cossacks, where he meets Ivan Karas.
The sultan invites Ivan to the palace. The clever Karas, though quite drunk, looks closely and notices everything. And when time comes, due to his attentiveness and smartness Cossacks break free.
The wonderful images of protagonists – Karas, Odarka, Oksana, Andriy, comic situations in which they appear, their music duets – that is a pearl of our culture based on Ukrainian melos.
The screen version of this opera makes it possible for the wide audience to touch the golden music inheritance of our people.
Producer's original findings organically relate the classic opera canvas to nowadays, raising the urgent issue of today – freedom of creativity and pure art.
