Yuriy Kovtun. BraviBelli.

Yuriy Kovtun. BraviBelli.
History testifies to that the album "BraviBelli" was initiated a few years ago, when the Kyivite Yury Kovtun came back from Italy. It inspired him for composing music – and, as a result, there are now quite a lot of melodies. According to his own confession, Yury selected for this album only those compositions that were written at once, at one go. It must have been easy to breath then... In any case, the album at once creates elated, festive mood – but in a surprising way. In the correct way. Because, although about a half of the compositions can hardly be called merry ones – a smile is very expressly felt in them. Somewhere dim, somewhere transparent, somewhere dreamy, somewhere thoughtful – but it is present in each piece, and it warms. In general, the album is very lively, sincere, straightforward. Here you find light jazz, and a bit of acid, and high-quality pop, and the atmosphere of old movie theaters, and laughter of street musicians, and a drop of new age – and everywhere, indeed, there is the taste of Italy. The melodies, arrangements are often so expressive, bright that they make this presence almost physically perceptible. For this, we should express separate gratitude to the invited musicians – beautiful work (by the way, "bravi" means in Italian "excellent, wonderful, experienced, adroit, able, brave, bold, courageous". And "belli" is "beautiful, wonderful, kind, pleasant, affectionate, successful, deserved, valorous, brave"). Honestly speaking, it is very pleasant when the heart of a musician is so open that it can admit in itself the real atmosphere of a whole country. Can reproduce it in sounds. Pleasant, when an ordinary listener can then easily feel this atmosphere, breathe in – and understand. And – smile.

Anno Domini. Galilee.

If we begin from the end, we could do it so: this is a wonderful, heartfelt, clear, high-quality album – and at present this is the best album in the reserve of Anno Domini. All previous experience, all best qualities acquired new depth here, started shining with new colors. And if we begin from the beginning...

Fusion Orchestra. Apocrypha.

Yes, in this music you can still hear well the hot southern sun – but still, on the foreground, you have original cool elegance. And one can feel based on which law the space of the disc is designed: rather not to satiate, but to extend this space as much as possible – but softly.
Domestic price: 44.12UAH, International price: $10.92USD

Motion Trio. Pictures from the Street.

It seems to me that none who has at least once heard performance by Motion Trio – and the more so none who has seen it – will ever forget, mix it up with anybody. And the thing is not only original composition – although you will hardly find among performers of jazz, art rock, folk fusion another trio what would consist exceptionally of accordions.

Er. J. Orchestra. On the Hill Again. (special CD+DVD edition).

Sure, Er. J. Orchestra is one of the most interesting Ukrainian projects in the domain of ethno-fusion today. And not only Ukrainian ones. Actually, this music is so organically intertwined into the world sound fabric – it is impossible to limit it with any borders, geographic or stylistic, etc.
Domestic price: 165.32UAH, International price: $40.92USD

Er. J. Orchestra. Gabrielius.

Only natural things can be like that – the sea in any weather, a streamlet somewhere in the mountains, the eyes of a horse or a deer, a green greeting of an old willow, a smile of an infant …

Mlada. O vesna, vesna. (Oh spring, spring)

Are you interested in Ukrainian folk songs? Fine. And what about jazz? Or, may be, some ethnic music would be all right? Eastern or Western? Or, may be, you prefer classical string quartette – a violin, a violin, a viola, a violoncello? Still may be, wouldn’t it be better to listen to a light trip-hop? Or may be art-rock – a light one? Then, I think, everything is understandable – all that is exactly here and exactly now, besides, there is something else.
Domestic price: 44.12UAH, International price: $10.92USD

Fusion Orchestra. Octagon.

It is great pleasure – to listen to music that has let in, changed, satiated and breathed out so many bright impressions, lives, root... When music is wide open – everybody can drink from it, see one's face in it, find in its one's real.
Domestic price: 44.12UAH, International price: $10.92USD

Izzet. Fraon.

Izzet Abliazov makes something special – that’s for sure. On the first album he was singing his own songs, on the second one – he already used rhythm reggae for Tatar folklore – and it sounded cool. This time – Izzet easily and beautiful interweaves reggae with Crimean Gypsy folk.
Domestic price: 36.04UAH, International price: $8.92USD

Olexa Kabanov. Ambrelyre. Polyphonic wheel lyre.

Far not every musician is able to breathe in real life into age-old instruments, to let them sound brightly, deeply – not with glass strasses, but with jewels. Olexa Kabanov, no doubt, is. In his performance traditional melodies sound as if they did not have hundreds of years behind their back – to that extent they are live, close, and warm.

Greek folk ensemble "Sartanski Samotsvity". Of, Mana, Vay!

So then, here is the second disc of music, songs and dances (pay attention to the video) of Ukrainian Greeks. “Sartanski Samotsvety” is a Greek folk ensemble, the members of which come from Ukraine, from the village of Sartany in Mariupol region.
Domestic price: 52.20UAH, International price: $12.92USD

Greek folk ensemble "Bir Taifa". Dzhanym.

Now you see the first disc released in Ukraine that presents the folk tradition of Turkic-speaking Greeks of Azov region – and this is one of the oldest nations that reside on the territory of Ukraine.
Domestic price: 52.20UAH, International price: $12.92USD

Sbyranka. Karpatiana.

Carpathians are a peculiar and, in a certain way, separate space, in which musical likings of several people meet and merge into something integral. That’s why it comes as no surprise that not only Ukrainian, but also Moldavian, Romanian and even Jewish melodies are presented in this album.
Domestic price: 36.04UAH, International price: $8.92USD

Olexa Kabanov. Wind from the Orient.

It seems that every musician who follows the way of self-perfection early or late faces the music culture of the East – and gets penetrated with it. In the end, it is difficult to stay indifferent to this beauty. Thus, the only thing left is to let it in, let it through and – let it go. Evidently, Olexa succeeded in it – you will hear that yourself.

Kharkiv Klezmer Band, Studio theater "Arabesque". Radio shanson: visim istorij pro Juru Zojfera. (brochure + CD).

...if we could hear what we say – probably, we would keep silent. But – we do speak. And what is then left for our words but for the echo of our pace? What is then left for our eyes but for memory? And who are we then if not prophets? – for we walk in a circle, that is why we as though know everything in advance...

Izzet. Reggalia.

...we have an album of Tatar folklore arranged in the style of Jamaica folklore. All this sounds in an organic way, which is a sure sign of plasticity of Tatar language...

Liapis Trubetskoy. Zolotye jajcy. (Golden eggs)

Their music is the mixture of everything that gets into your hands and is reinforced by a powerful and skilful spiritual section. You can find practically everything here, starting with grunge and ending with raggy, and all that is fully stuffed with Byelorussian outlook and sense of humour...
Domestic price: 32.00UAH, International price: $7.92USD

Oleh Skrypka. Vidrada.

As for this album, one may say that this is a romance plus la chanson (in its French meaning, including the language of performance as well). This is the collection of songs which were and are loved if not in the whole world, then in many houses of the world. Being arranged by Skrypka himself, these songs get new and a bit unusual, if not interesting, sounding.

Second Breath. Save the Blues.

Second Breath is a Kyiv group that has been playing blues for 40 (!) years already. It is quite possible that this is the oldest active blues band not only in Kyiv, but also all through Ukraine. Or, maybe, through considerably wider territories – who know...
