Olexa Kabanov. Wind from the Orient.

Olexa Kabanov is a versatile Kyiv musician, in his hands, age-old European, and oriental, and African instruments sound identically organic. Strings, spirits, percussion – it seems that there is nothing what he would not manage to play. And at that – professionally, qualitatively, intensely. Actually, we have already had more than one chance to make sure of his mastery. Olexa Kabanov took part in such projects as Er.J.Orchestra, YO'Gurt Group, Gaydamaky, Mandry, Nadobryden, he co-operated with Oleg Skrypka, Maria Burmaka – the list grows longer every year. Somewhere he plays joint concerts, somewhere – he is also involved in recording discs. In any case, his playing certainly adds deep, important colors to the music that he gives a hand to create. In parallel he, naturally, is engaged in solo creativity – and the disc "Wind from the East" is one of displays of this simultaneous motion inward and beyond. It seems that every musician who follows the way of self-perfection early or late faces the music culture of the East – and gets penetrated with it. In the end, it is difficult to stay indifferent to this beauty. Thus, the only thing left is to let it in, let it through and – let it go. Evidently, Olexa succeeded in it – you will hear that yourself. Not the least role here is played by the fact that in his arsenal there are quite a lot of exotic instruments, and Olexa Kabanov searches for new approaches to playing them, he interlaces the East and the West in his plays.
