It is nice when at acquaintance you discover more than you expected – especially when expectations were great from the very beginning. Music by Lyudmyla and Myhaylo Krymov is just of this standard. Any concrete definition would seem too narrow here – even though such directions as new-age, fusion, jazz-rock imply a wide palette of sounds and technical tools. But here you will find all this – and something more, for what there are rather not names, but feeling. Due to which it seems quite obvious that classics, ethnics, jazz, electronics are not separate things but branches of the same tree. The more ramified and deep its roots are, the more magnificent and saturated its leafage becomes. And when, for example, Ukrainian lamentation intertwines in oriental ornamentations, and funk bass joyfully dances under Latin-American percussions – there appears not only beautiful music but also real magic. Krymov Duo charms, and charges, and gives rest – this is, if I dare, intelligent soft music. I mean that the serious technical mastery, virtuosity of performance do not burden, do not interfere with clarity of lines, lightness of fantasy. Having listened to this disc, you feel empty and saturated simultaneously – a strange but pleasant feeling.

Very transparent, juicy, quiet and confident and yet full of irrepressible life – this is what this work appears like. Stylistically, it continues the trend including the albums "Black" and "Red" – the pure jazz-rock line, with no direct immersions into the lounge or symphonicity. But in a much softer, tender version.

Actually, Braty Blyuzu have never avoided a chance of appealing to the roots – in their previous recordings, there are enough references to Ukrainian themes. But now they have decided to mix a whole new cocktail and have thrown a bunch of fragrant herbs into their crucible: jazz, new-age, art rock, world music...

First, "Braty Blusu" have long ago already – and absolutely deservedly – become a living legend of the Ukrainian jazz-rock. And, second – and this is, probably, even more important – the album is really good and interesting. Interesting, foremost, due to its ambiguousne...

Thus – thirteen LP albums by "The Beatles" (in the chronological order), one song from each. Something is closer to the original, something is farther: jazz is music that is free in its creative search and discoveries. Let us hope that this new CD by Cherkasy Jazz Quintet will turn to be a nice present both for fans of "The Beatles", and for fans of jazz...

I could say something about the reflection of the musical universe here, as several musical trends and styles got skilfully and gently entangled in this album. Still it seems to me that it would not be groundless to speak about the reflection of the Universe itself, as it is a musical stream, which is characterised by generality.

Second Breath is a Kyiv group that has been playing blues for 40 (!) years already. It is quite possible that this is the oldest active blues band not only in Kyiv, but also all through Ukraine. Or, maybe, through considerably wider territories – who know...
