Sometimes Olexa Kabanov is called the orchestra man. For this, it seems, there are two reasons. One is the large collection of varied music instruments, from sitar and duduk to gusli and oud, which he plays identically skillfully. And this collection constantly grows – the more so that he develops, perfects and produces a part of the instruments himself. The second one is the wide spectrum of music interests, which includes European middle ages and the Oriental tradition, and Slavonic ethnics, from jazz to folk-rock and world music. The album "Valley of Muses" is, in fact, a Ukrainian project in the domain of world music – at that, presumably, virtually the first one in Ukraine. This time, Olexa was supported in his work on his solo album by Sergiy Ohrymchuk (participant of the projects CAT, Drevo, Volodar, Mlada) on the violin and Andriy Moroz (Strelchenko Band) on percussion. There is no sense in describing this music, you should listen to it – and it is worth listening. Not only because this is for the first time. But also because it is – beautiful and strange. It is strange and nice to hear how organically there sound together, for example, the lyre, the deeply Ukrainian violin, – and the Indian percussion. Or the mandolin with the drymba – why not a couple? You will find here unexpected combinations, and each of them will tell you again and again that this is world music indeed, music without borders, music for people, for all and each, regardless the nationality. Olexa Kabanov no doubt did not make a mistake when he began his search exactly in this direction – a lot of pearls are hidden here and should be discovered.
