DakhaBrakha is becoming more and more transparent, clear – direct, if I may. Not as direct as a log, but – as an arrow. This is similar to how wisdom needs to pass the complete path from the sophisticated to the simple – otherwise, nothing but the intellect will grow. And it is when naked – rather a dead weight... Here – otherwise. On the first album music of the group literally wiped the listener off, snatched him / her for a hot dance – because that was really some primitive burst of fiery energy. The second album was a studio one, and thus softer – but the basis remained the same. And here, "On the Verge" – in the music of DakhaBrakha the force of water is revealed very perceptibly, magic of quite a different level appears, intended for other purposes. That is, the first works were just to burn everything old, not able to live on – to clear the space. The new work – must feed the new, fresh relying on those roots that did not subdue to the action of fire. That verge from which creation of the new myth, new cultural alloy may start passes somewhere – at least, the album does create preconditions for this. Whether they will succeeded in cherish from it something truly green and flexible – this is a question for the future. But the fact that DakhaBrakha based on experience of its own creativity passes the way from the primordial chaos to harmonious creation – seems obvious. Do your eyes see? Taking the Carpathian and Polissya folklore as a basis, PoliKarp modernizes it very carefully – the key melody and, actually, the manner of singing remain unchanged. While speaking about rhythmic structures and additional melody lines – here already musicians release their fantasy. And that is why in their music it is possible to hear impacts of outright rock, and jazz, and funk, and dub..

First I listened to the Ojra’s records somewhere at the end of 90-ties, yet then it was the attempt to join the archaic and the up-to-date. The staff of the group changed several times since then, and they didn’t give up to search. Of course, a variety of creative paths they made gave its outcome: one of the best, I think, neo-folk records of all Ukrainian discography of the recent years.

Burdon is able even from some rather whimsical, complicated rhythms, tempos and melodies to produce such a refined, well-balanced space that both people and clouds, and trees quite freely, naturally start dancing in it – isn't that a miracle… And nobody interferes with anyone, steps on a shade – vice versa, there is mutual complementing and filling. There is – mutual understanding.

It’s really pleasent when someone promises and then does even more . Deeply, better, lovely... It’s pleasing when somebody devouts his heart and soul to business in the way that you can see this pure soul, feel this heart so close to yourself...

The mosaic that results is as bright as deep – "Burdon" once again opens the beauty of old music virtually lost for large audiences. And, at the same time, throws a tank of oxygen into the flame of modern folk – let it burn brightly and not die away...

The album "Valley of Muses" is, in fact, a Ukrainian project in the domain of world music – at that, presumably, virtually the first one in Ukraine. It is strange and nice to hear how organically there sound together, for example, the lyre, the deeply Ukrainian violin, – and the Indian percussion. Or the mandolin with the drymba – why not a couple?

Good music - I listen to it a lot. Not quite as good as their earlier album (Jagudky ) but still more interesting than anyone in the UK is currently producing. One or two tracks do seem to be a bit derivative of their earlier work, though even with them there is sufficient development to make them worthwhile. It will be interesting to see how the group develops over time, whether they will fall into a rut or move their music on in some way.
