A few years ago at Kraina Mriy I heard the Belarus project "Altanka" – and I thought: it is a pity that we don't have our own ethno-art-rock projects exactly with male "folk" vocal. Female singing is, indisputably, beautiful. However, male one – especially when it refers to songs of the ballad type – transfers some absolutely different, free, traveling energy.. Since then, lots of things have changed, but now it appears – I just did not know about existence, for example, of the project "Karpatyany" (which starting from 2008 has the name PoliKarp). Thus – I'm glad to offer to you the debut album by this wonderful group. Though, in this case the disc contains more frisky songs than pensive ones – nevertheless. Taking the Carpathian and Polissya folklore as a basis, PoliKarp modernizes it very carefully – the key melody and, actually, the manner of singing remain unchanged. While speaking about rhythmic structures and additional melody lines – here already musicians release their fantasy. And that is why in their music it is possible to hear impacts of outright rock, and jazz, and funk, and dub – in the end, very experienced people play here, therefore they masterfully manage the diverse "extremes". Take only Serhiy Okhrimchuk – his violin absolutely convincingly sounds in a great number of very different projects, from sheer folklore to neoclassics and electro-acoustic experiments. And he is not alone in PoliKarp)
