Personally for me, "The Enchanted Desna" by Olexander Dovzhenko is still one of my most loved Ukrainian books. I really appreciate and respect this kind of literature – transparent and tender, mild, simple and deep. It is in it, to my mind, that one can come across real, human wisdom. Not sophistication, not emasculated philosophy, not naked intellectual maxims and toys for erudites – the main attribute of wisdom is love. Not to someone or something concrete – love as it is. It is capable to wrap someone and something – entirely, completely. And it is it that one can find in "The Enchanted Desna" – and, probably, in all works by Dovzhenko. Not frequently, by the way, it happens that a written piece and its realization as a film are equally valuable, touching, real. But in this case it is indeed so. I do not know even what is better – to read / listen to it or to watch. The both are good. There are also, however, cruel moments – and "The Earth" and "Mother" are, probably, already perceived not as even twenty years before. But all this is our history. And we have to clean, sift it – with our own love and wisdom. Not condemnation. Anton Jozhik Leyba (Hedgehog) Important notice! Record is made in mp3 format. All files names are in Ukrainian. "Kholodny Yar" is one of those books that one could read through over one night, a true bestseller with the 70-year old history! Collective reading of the book used to be organized in "Prosvita"'s, names of its characters were adopted as pseudonyms by young OUN members. One could say without exaggerating that Yuri Horlis-Horsky became an idol of thousands of Ukrainian patriot...

Todos’ Os’machka’s prose is one of the most remarkable mirrors that reflected the light and the darkness of the Soviet epoch. He is also the author of impressive chronicles of criminal massacre of Ukrainian people. A fairy and lyrical story "First bride’s man", that goes in tune with Sartr’s "The Nausea" and "The Stranger" of Camus, is also of his authorship.

The best-known novel by the author. It was this novel, written by the author at the age of 16, that acquired surprisingly wide publicity among youth and has already been translated into several European languages.

Events of this novel develop among "strange", often semi-destroyed and abandoned buildings and places of the modern Lviv. Representatives of various "youth get-togethers" come there. The novel describes assemblages and rites of "urban subcultures"... Protagonists of the novel (and Deresh is one of them) wander through today's Lviv as if through a labyrinth.

He doesn’t create anything odd, but he always creates something special. He is exceptional not because he tries to be so. Perhaps this is because he’s just not afraid to be himself and he really can do that. Probably for that reason clear, simple and real wisdom lives in his prose.

This world, quiet and smiling, raises such unhurried questions that it is impossible to escape, as they are inside of absolutely each of us. This Babylon is not space, not history. This Babylon is the soul. But here are no reproaches – only the story, questions, smile, forgiveness. Life. It flies as a swan flock – and sing...

Bright – yes. Thoughtful – yes. Frank, deep, unexpected – yes. And a dozen more of various "yes"'s. Sometimes everything is so clear and easy – as it should be – it even gives creeps. True.

The starting point is attention, the only condition – to see with one's heart. You come into this water, as in birth, and every separate story is another river. But all rivers, as known, carry their waters to the ocean. And whichever Prohasko's story you might take – all the same you get into this bowl...

I'm learning the Ukrainian language, I bought the cd because it was the clearest voice to understand. The mp3 format only plays on my computer, I'm trying to figure away to burn it to my computer to make a cd that will play on a cd player. other than that I like it. Thanks, john
